Gambling is a proud Australian Tradition. We have loads of jokes about two guys in a bar betting on flies or cane toads.  We bet on frog races, horse races and car races, even two raindrops running down a window pane.
The entire country stops on the 1st Tuesday in November for the Melbourne Cup – a famous horse race that EVERYONE knows about. Every workplace will stop for an hour or so (unless you live in Melbourne in which case you take the entire day off…) for champagne, snacks and to shriek at the television as the horses go round the track. Ladies hats for an important part of the day.
ANZAC Day is the only time it’s legal to play the game ‘Two-Up’ - a truly traditional form of Aussie gambling. You throw a coin in the air and bet on wheter it will come up heads or tails. Only in Australia.
I once dreamed about some winning lotto numbers, but they haven’t come up for me yet. I am very lucky at casinos for other people, but not for myself.
